about

Liner notes:

Patrick Fleming is a singer/songwriter/performer from Austin, TX by way of Hoboken, NJ. With influences as far flung as Johnny Cash, U2, Collective Soul, Pearl Jam, ELO, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers, Muse, Green Day and The Beatles, Patrick writes everything from Modern/Alternative/Pop Rock to Americana/Alt. Country. With four CD's to his credit - 'Connected...' (2000), 'Naked' (2002), 'Reach For The Sky' (2004), and now, 'Reboot' (2013), Patrick's music has been heard on professional sports video's around the world through Accu-Stats Video Productions, while. locally, he has appeared in a series of Mazda South Auto Dealership television commercials. He can also be heard on 'Volume #1' of the Gigglebellies children's DVD series with his versions of many children's classics.

Playing for over 25 years and performing professionally for over 17, Patrick is also no stranger to the stage and the importance of the energy of the live show. Patrick moved to Austin, TX in 2004 with a repertoire of over 300 cover and original songs accumulated over 8 years of performing 4-5 solo shows a week. In late 2005, he took a detour from original music with an opportunity to build a show in a U2 Tribute Band called Mysterious Ways. Patrick's time as Mysterious Ways' lead singer (Bono), show designer, and manager allowed him to perform many venues and locales around the world, including shows at House Of Blues and Hard Rock Cafe', shows in Mexico and, the highlight of his career so far, performing for the US troops at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

In early 2013 Patrick decided it was time to wind down Mysterious Ways and refocus on original songs. So, with lessons learned from U2 and Mysterious Ways, Patrick is returning to his roots - a combination of Americana/Alt Country and Rock - with his Summer 2013 release titled "REBOOT", including the track "Santa Fe" which was featured on Texas Music Magazine's Summer 2013 Compilation CD. ENJOY!

SANTA FE
Words and music by Patrick Fleming, Jr.

She disappeared like a mirage
As the sun rose in the sky
My thirst was ever deepened
With every tear I cried
I followed her to this border town
Where the desert wind does blow
But she slipped away in the middle of the night
On her way to New Mexico

Senorita, can you tell me, how far to Santa Fe?
I am trying to meet her but I have somehow lost my way
She was in my dreams where the sun set best and the spirits rode on the wind
Senorita, can you tell me, how much longer ‘til I give in

‘Cause I’ve been wandering through this desert
With the tricks of the heat and the sun
The Spirits of the ancients
Have got me on the run
I double back on a double-wide track
Only looking for some shade
But the specters of my distant past
Keep me from being saved

Senorita, can you tell me, how far to Santa Fe?
I am trying to meet her but I have somehow lost my way
She was in my dreams where the sun set best and the spirits rode on the wind
Senorita, can you tell me, how much longer ‘til I give

Into my temptations
‘Til I give into my remaining doubt
‘Til I give into my frustrations
‘Til I give in and never get out

Senorita, can you tell me, how far to Santa Fe?
I am trying to meet her but I have somehow lost my way

Senorita, can you tell me, how far to Santa Fe?
I am trying to meet her but I have somehow lost my way
She was in my dreams where the sun set best and the spirits rode on the wind
Senorita, can you tell me, how much longer ‘til I give in
How much longer ‘til I give in
How much longer… ‘til I give in

Close your eyes
Wake up to the sound of your own heartbeat
Close your eyes
Wake up to the sound of your own heartbeat

There’s a million stars hanging from the sky
Just waiting for someone to wish upon them
There’s a million miles between you and I
I guess I’m gonna have to drive them

Straight to your door, can’t do no more
It’s up to you try to see it
Deep inside, you know you are alive
Let go, you gotta leave it

Close your eyes
Wake up to the sound of your own heartbeat
Close your eyes
Wake up to the sound of your own heartbeat

No one’s ever right, no one’s ever wrong
It’s just a series of consequences
No one can tell you that you don’t belong
You’re tripping over your own fences

Straight to the source, pull from the force
Gather up your strength and use it
Deep inside, you know still alive
Take advantage now or lose it

Close your eyes
Wake up to the sound of your own heartbeat
Close your eyes
Wake up to the sound of your own heartbeat

Behind your eyes lives a world of surprises
Riding on a higher frequency
Can’t take you there but once it’s in the air
You can listen so much more freely, yeah, yeah

There’s a million stars hanging from the sky
Just waiting for you to wish upon them
There’s a million miles between you and I
Looks like you’re gonna have to drive them

Close your eyes
Wake up to the sound of your own heartbeat
Close your eyes
Wake up to the sound of your own heartbeat
Close your eyes
Wake up to the sound of your own heartbeat
Close your eyes
Wake up to the sound of your own heartbeat

Where did it all begin - Where’s it gonna end
This all seems so familiar , ‘round the corner again
You'd think I’d learn from something someone else once said
I paid admission and now I admit I turned a deaf ear instead

Tie me tighter I’m falling apart
Tell me when we are back at the start

And it feels like I, I’m coming undone
And it feels like I, I’m losing all I’ve won
I know I should be, should be standing tall
But it feels like I, I’ve undone it all

Hello, where you off to, didn’t we just meet
There’s something so familiar, making me complete
Was it something I said, or was it the way I looked at you
There’s nothing I can take back, nothing I can undo

Tie me tighter I’m falling apart
Tell me when we are back at the start

And it feels like I, I’m coming undone
And it feels like I, I’m losing all I’ve won
I know I should be, should be standing tall
But it feels like I, I’ve undone it all

If we can’t erase the past, why must we relive it
All the shit that I have taken… I have given

Tie me tighter I’m falling apart
Tell me when we are back at the start

And it feels like I, I’m coming undone
And it feels like I, I’m losing all I’ve won
I know I should be, should be standing tall
But it feels like I, I’ve undone it all
I’ve undone it all
I’ve undone it all
I’ve undone it all

BROKEN RADIO
Words and music by Patrick Fleming, Jr.

I heard it said “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”
It’s working fine just the way it is
Too many times we try to change things
That’s when it all falls to shit

And the domino effect of our own incompetence
Digs us deeper and deeper in the hole
We’re left scratching our heads with spare parts in hand
Should have left it well enough alone

Now I’m singing in harmony with my broken heart
Trading licks on broken fingers on a broke guitar
With broken boots I’m dancing ‘round a broken dance hall floor
To the broken rhythm on a broken radio
To the broken rhythm on a broken radio

I rode the bull straight through the china shop
Yeah, you know how in all went down
In a big crash, the glass it shattered
A million pieces on the ground

If we only stopped and asked someone for some direction
We might be in better state of mind
‘Cause the knots we tie while we’re untying all our knots
They leave us forever in a bind

Now I’m singing in harmony with my broken heart
Trading licks on broken fingers on a broke guitar
With broken boots I’m dancing ‘round a broken dance hall floor
To the broken rhythm on a broken radio
To the broken rhythm on a broken radio
To the broken rhythm on a broken radio

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, don’t touch it, don’t mess with it
Can’t you see that it’s working fine
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, don’t look at it, don’t breathe on it
It’s working fine!!

To the broken rhythm of a broken rhythm on a broken rhythm
Of a broken rhythm on a broken radio

EVEN ROME
Words and music by Patrick Fleming, Jr.

I had a dream that we were drowning
I woke up with the sheets around my neck
I don’t know how the hell we got here
But just look around, this place is a wreck

Who was the one in charge here when it all went to hell
Fingers point in one direction, how could we never tell

But Even Rome fell to ruin / Even Rome was on its knees
Even Rome looked to the heavens for some kind reprieve
Even Rome cried out in anger as it held on for too long
Even Rome survived its own siren song

I clutch my hands but feel no one
I open my mouth yet I still can’t breathe
Everything I ever held close to me
I pushed away without remorse or grief

Who was the one in charge here, who made this mess
Fingers point in all directions, but I know who’s responsible for this

But Even Rome fell to ruin / Even Rome was on its knees
Even Rome looked to the heavens for some kind reprieve
Even Rome cried out in anger as it held on for too long
Even Rome survived its own siren song

For what I’ve done to those I’ve loved and how I sat and watched their pain
You can call me Caesar and I’ll let you murder me again

I kick the dust, all that remains
I pick up memories, the wind blows them away
An empire crumbling down to the sea
At the water’s edge all that’s left is you and me

But Even Rome fell to ruin / Even Rome was on its knees
Even Rome looked to the heavens for some kind reprieve
Even Rome cried out in sorrow as it held on far too long
Even Rome, Even Rome…

Even Rome fell to ruin / Even Rome was on its knees
Even Rome looked to the heavens for some kind reprieve
Even Rome rose from the ashes / Even Rome was born again
Even Rome, Even Rome, Even Rome…

I know I’m a long shot
Take a look this is all I’ve got
I guess it’s time to throw it all in the pot
And take my chances

I’ve been called an also-ran
But I’m doing the best that I can
And I know that I’ll be damned
If I don’t take my chances

I’ve never been a betting kind
But I’ve been putting my life on the line
Over and over again

I’m just One Win from a winning streak
I’m just One Win from making ends meet
One Win Away from losing my losing days

Right now it’s either sink or swim
No time to let it do me in
You know I feel so close to drownin’
So, I’ll take my chances

One turn of a friendly card
Then I won’t have to work so hard
Lord know I’ve come too far
To not take these chances

I’ve never been a betting kind
But I’ve been putting my life on the line
Over and over again

I’m just One Win from a winning streak
I’m just One Win from making ends meet
One Win Away from losing my losing days
I’m just One Win from paying the bills
I’m just One Win from that house on the hill
One Win Away from losing my losing days

Pretty soon my ship is gonna come in
Then I’m gonna stop my running
You can bet I’ll be lying in the sun and
Playing my guitar

(Solo)

I know I’m a long shot
Take a look this is all I’ve got
I guess it’s time to throw it all in the pot
And I’ll take my chances…

I’m just One Win from a winning streak
I’m just One Win from making ends meet
One Win Away from losing my losing days
I’m just One Win from paying the bills
I’m just One Win from that house on the hill
One Win Away from losing my losing days

One Win Away from losing my losing days …

I headed west from the streets of New Jersey
Never knowing what the cards held before me
A song and dance somewhere in the Hill Country
Of a place called Patience, Texas

I hope you’re not in any real kind of hurry
Sit down, put up your feet, here there are no worries
Someone will sing a song or tell a few good stories
About a place called Patience, Texas

My girl, she said, “Slow down, you’re not yet dead
There’s a lot of good, long living left to do”
I hung my head, trying to catch my breath
Ever since New Jersey I’ve been running on nothing but fumes

I sat down and for the first time that I could remember
I saw the sun set ‘til its last dying ember
And as the night came in so did a kiss that was a never-ender
All in a place called Patience, Texas

You’ll get anything you want, anything at all
Just put a word out, you will get the call
‘Cause anything worth having, it’s worth waiting for
Especially here in Patience, Texas

Sometimes it wears you thin
Sometimes you get so tired that you begin
To pick up the pace, get back in the race
Just to have yourself put back in your place
Back in Patience… Patience, Texas

My girl, she said, “Slow down, you’re not yet dead
There’s a lot of good, long living left to do”
I hung my head, trying to catch my breath
Ever since New Jersey I’ve been running on and on and on…
Nothing but fumes

I headed west from the streets of New Jersey
But now my memory it’s getting blurry
I used to always be running in a hurry
But now I live in Patience, Texas
But now I live in Patience, Texas
It’s all good here in Patience, Texas

THE HONEYMOON IS OVER
Words and music by Patrick Fleming, Jr.

I come home from work, she says “Honey, you know the sink’s still leaking”
By the time I’ve figured it out, don’t you know she’s already sleeping
I slide quietly into bed, and I kiss her gently on the cheek
There once was a time when we did more than that between those sheets

But the kids have got an early bus
And I’ve got to get myself out to the office

Looks like the honeymoon is over, even though we’ve just begun
Yeah, the honeymoon is over but we’re still having too much fun
There’s a whole lot to be done when you’re a family on the run
Yeah, the honeymoon may be over but the best is yet to come

“Can you pick up our son from soccer”, I hear her tell me on the telephone
“I’ll leave dinner in the fridge for you and him when you both get back home
I’ve got a meeting with the HOA and then I’ve gotta stop by my mother’s”
Yeah, there once was a time when we were always seen with each other

But nothing lasts forever
I guess everything changes for the better

Looks like the honeymoon is over, even though we’ve just begun
Yeah, the honeymoon is over but we’re still having too much fun
There’s a whole lot to be done when you’re a family on the run
Yeah, the honeymoon may be over but the best is yet to come

I want to look at her rocking in our rocking chair
When the gray is through running through our hair
I want to look back on all the things we did
And lean over and say “Honey, let’s do it again”

She’s my best friend, she’s my wife
No one else I’d rather have in my life

Looks like the honeymoon is over, even though we’ve just begun
Yeah, the honeymoon is over but we’re still having too much fun
There’s a whole lot to be done when you’re a family on the run
Yeah, the honeymoon may be over but the best is yet to come
Yeah, the honeymoon is over
Yeah, the honeymoon is over
Yeah, the honeymoon is over
But the best is yet to come

Thumb in the air - Trying to catch a ride to somewhere
Heaven knows it’s gotta be better than here

Lines in the sand - Once drawn by steady hands
Blurred by winds that blow out in all directions

Hands on our hearts - Trying to find a place to start
Building up our dreams while still in the dark

Waiting in line - Too obsessed to see the signs
Watching fortresses rise above without foundations

And Nowhere I have seen
And Nowhere I have been
And Nowhere I will stay
In Nowhere, USA

Back to the sun - Giving up on all we’ve won
Canyons filled with greed - it can’t be undone

The desert moon – It’s sinking way too soon
And leaving us alone with less than righteous intentions

And Nowhere I have seen
And Nowhere I have been
And Nowhere I will stay
In Nowhere, USA

These troubled times bring to mind echoes from the past
The words and deeds of those who lead are meaningless

And Nowhere I have seen
And Nowhere I have been
And Nowhere I will stay
In Nowhere, USA
In Nowhere, USA
In Nowhere, USA

Thumb in the air - Trying to hitch a ride to Nowhere
Heaven knows that Nowhere is better than here

You said I flipped you off last night but I was only giving the finger to
The car that that came ‘round the corner and nearly hit me and you
You said I called you too early this morning
But I was up and I thought you might be yearning to
Get back together and get into the groove

‘Cause I can’t keep on making excuses
You called my bluff, no, there’s no use

I was caught red-handed in the cookie jar
I was caught on tape stealing a candy bar
I was drinkin’ from a bag in parking lot
I was saying I loved you when I loved you not

You say you saw me at the coffee shop but it wasn’t me with that blonde you see
‘Cause I was shopping with my mom and dad down at Macy’s
What I buy? How’d I know she was blonde?
No, I didn’t know that you talked to my mom
So let’s just forget I ever said a goddamned thing

‘Cause I can’t keep on making excuses
You called my bluff, no, there’s no use

I was caught red-handed in the cookie jar
I was caught on tape stealing a candy bar
I was drinkin’ from a bag in parking lot
I was saying I loved you when I loved you not

There was a time when I would tell the truth
But that was way back in my youth
You know I just turned twenty-two
So what makes you think I’m gonna listen to you

You said I called you too early this morning
But I was up and I thought you might be yearning to
Get back to the business of the finger I flipped at you

‘Cause I can’t keep on making excuses
You called my bluff, no, there’s no use

I was caught red-handed in the cookie jar
I was caught on tape stealing a candy bar
I was drinkin’ from a bag in parking lot
I was saying I loved you when I loved you not

I was caught red-handed in the cookie jar
I was caught with my pants down behind the bar
It wasn’t cigarettes, no, I was smoking pot
I was saying I loved you when I loved you not

I was caught red-handed
I was saying I loved you when I loved you not…

It’s time for me to leave this place and go far away
Too many women and too many beers have caught me after all these years
And the talk that’s going around
Makes me think I’d be better off out of town

I think I’ll go to Mexico
I’ll learn to drink tequila and wear a sombrero, oh
In Mexico it’s never cold and I can sleep all day I’m told

I kinda liked the way they always say “Si, senor”
But I never liked the fact that I couldn’t understand a single word they’d say
But it’s just a matter of time
Una cerveza then it’s siesta time

I think I’ll go to Mexico
I’ll learn to drink tequila and wear a sombrero, oh
In Mexico it’s never cold and I can sleep all day I’m told

And the talk that’s going around
Makes me think I’d be better off out of town

I think I’ll go to Mexico
Get drunk on tequila and wear a sombrero, oh
In Mexico it’s never cold and I can sleep all day I’m told

I never quite liked the way they always say “Hey gringo”
And I never liked the fact that they couldn’t understand a goddamn word I’d say
But it all will come to pass
My senorita bonita will be my last

I think I’ll go to Mexico
Black out on tequila and wear a sombrero, oh
In Mexico it’s never cold and I can sleep all day I’m told
Oh, that’s where I’m gonna go
There’s lots of gold, I’m told, way down in Mexico

Woke up late - here we go again
Running for the bus but it never ends
Hailing a taxi for a last minute ride
Oh, one of these Monday mornings I’m gonna get fired

‘Cause there’s still work left from Friday night
And my eyes are hurting, can’t look at the light
And my head’s still filled with rum and whiskey
Oh, Saturday evening will live in infamy

And I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays from the wrong side of the bar
I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays, I’m surprised I’ve got this far
I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays with my head buried in my hands
I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays in this condition

I don’t feel like morning donuts
But thanks again for asking me
I’m not quite sure if I could keep it down
On second thought I’d like a large black coffee

I’d like to tell you just how my weekend went
If I could just remember what it was that I did
From Happy Hour Friday to Closing Time Sunday
I apparently drank like a fish

And I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays from the wrong side of the bar
I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays, I’m surprised I’ve got this far
I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays with my head buried in my hands
I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays, One Too Many Mondays
I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays…

Bridge: But Friday night is only four more days and nights away
And I know that by that time I’ll be ready to go out and play
I don’t need to be convinced that I’m on way to a binge
Someone said that I said “never again”
But this is now and that was last weekend

Could you keep it down - Don’t be so loud
If you listen close you can hear my head pound

Chorus 3: And I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays from the wrong side of the bar
I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays, I’m surprised I’ve got this far
I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays with my head buried in my hands
I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays, One Too Many Mondays
I’ve seen One Too Many Mondays in this condition

Could you keep it down - Don’t be so loud
If you listen close you can hear my head pound
Could you keep it down - Don’t be so loud…

I swear that I can feel a heartbeat a half a world away
You can tell me what you’re thinking but I know what you’re thinking, just the same

You can pick up the telephone, or you can try to get me on-line
But, I’ll be in contact with you, I’m only waiting for your sign

There’s so much for you to learn
So many things that I’ve left unspoken
Your world awaits your interaction

We are Connected - We are One
We are Connected - One Vision under the Sun

As I lie here underneath, in an environmental trance
I see you could lose it all if you were only given half a chance

It’s still a bit early, can’t you see I’m barely awake
Still in my infancy, in a subterranean-unconscious state

There’s so much left for you to learn
So many things that I’ve left unspoken
Your world awaits your interaction

I could have been a knight in shining armor sitting on a steed
Riding off into distant lands in the name of the Queen
And you could have been that damsel in distress I saved
But when we got back you ran off before I could ask you to stay

And I have lived a Thousand Lifetimes
And I have died a thousand deaths
And each time I loved you

I could have been a cowboy making my way across the Wild West
Peacemaker by my side ready to find out who’s the best
And you could have been that fair-haired girl who caught my eye
But like the sun you blinded me and I drew too slow and died

And I have lived a Thousand Lifetimes
And I have died a thousand deaths
And each time your name was my last breath
And I have seen a thousand visions
Woke up from a thousand dreams
And each time I loved you

An air of familiarity holds me within
Like a ghost walking through me I can feel you on my skin

You could have been that girl who tried to win my love
Turned away at the breaking point when push came to shove
And I must have been that fool who did not understand
And let you walk away, you slipped right through my hands

And I have lived a Thousand Lifetimes
And I have died a thousand deaths
And each time your name was my last breath
And I have seen a thousand visions
Woke up to a thousand dreams
And each time I loved you
And I have seen a thousand visions
Woke up to a thousand dreams
And each time I loved you… You know I loved you…

I could have been a pilot over Berlin in the fall of '44
Shot down behind the enemies lines, far from home
And you could have been that bedside nurse who healed my heart
But when the Allies broke through the ranks I knew they'd tear us apart
You know I loved you…
You know I loved you…

THE WHISKEY HIT ME
© 2005 Patrick Fleming, Jr. All Rights Reserved

I woke up this morning with two black eyes
A cut on my forehead that I couldn’t hide
My wife said “Jesus, who beat the crap out of you?”

I tried to remember but I couldn’t think
Something about having one more drink
And the boys all shouting out for the juice of the dew

We hunkered down, we prepared to pound
But the lights went out in a rain of stout

When the whiskey hit me I couldn’t fight back
When the whiskey hit me I couldn’t fend the attack
Went a couple a rounds then a few rounds more
That’s when the whiskey hit me… and I hit the floor

That very next night I’m at the scene of the crime
Trying to dig up some clues and see what I’d find
The barman said “Dig, if ya can, to the bottom of this glass”

I considered a different point of attack
But what he said made sense so I tossed that shot back
And now I’m back in the ring and I’m taking revenge on the past

I jabbed and punched, but the punch punched back
The harder I tried, the harder it cracked

When the whiskey hit me I couldn’t fight back
When the whiskey hit me I couldn’t fend the attack
Went a couple a rounds then a few rounds more
That’s when the whiskey hit me… and I hit the floor

Let the drums of revolution cry
Let freedom ring, let tyranny die
Many braver men have gone this way
So raise your glass to those resting in their graves

Maybe a stronger man could have won that fight
Or maybe I was fighting too late in the night
But I wasn’t alone in the great battle for the drink

The boys in the bar, they fought brave, they fought hard
But in the end even the barman was scarred
‘Cause that bottle has friends, more than you might think

We hunkered down, we prepared to pound
But the lights went out in a rain of stout

When the whiskey hit me I couldn’t fight back
When the whiskey hit me I couldn’t fend the attack
Went a couple a rounds then a few rounds more
That’s when the whiskey hit me…

When the whiskey hit me I couldn’t fight back
When the whiskey hit me I couldn’t fend the attack
Went a couple a rounds then a few rounds more
That’s when the whiskey hit me… and I hit the floor

Let the drums of revolution cry
Let freedom ring, let tyranny die
Many braver men have gone this way
So raise your glass to those turning in their graves
